Super Eagles team news: Iheanacho, Onuachu miss final training session pre-Equatorial Guinea
Published: January 13, 2024
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Kelechi Iheanacho and Paul Onuachu are rated as doubtful to play against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday afternoon, with the duo not involved in the Super Eagles' final training session.
The Leicester City striker and Southampton loanee were not spotted during the team's workout at the Ecole Nationale de la Police on Saturday afternoon.
Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro said during the pre-match press conference that the two strikers arrived in Abidjan in the early hours of Saturday.
Onuachu has no injury issues as he has been involved in all the league games played by Trabzonspor since his loan move to Turkey.
On the other hand, Iheanacho is lacking match fitness, taking into account that he has logged only 117 minutes in all competitions since the start of December due to an injury he had been dealing with.
Peseiro has claimed that the Super Eagles number 14 has fully recovered from the injury that has prevented him from playing for the Foxes since Boxing Day.
Terem Moffi will not be available for selection against the Elephants of Equatorial Guinea with the OGC Nice forward expected to report for duty as from 2000 hours on Sunday, effectively ruling him out of the AFCON opener.
Peserio should have at least twenty-two players available for selection against Equatorial Guinea given that all the players in camp, with the exception of Iheanacho and Onuachu, trained fully without problems on Saturday afternoon.
