Super Eagles team news: Sadiq not involved in Thursday's workout, wears canvas shoes to training
Published: January 11, 2024
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that there's genuine cause for alarm over the fitness of Umar Sadiq few days before Nigeria's 2023 Africa Cup of Nations opener against Equatorial Guinea.
Sadiq has emerged as an injury worry for Nigeria having failed to train fully with his teammates for the second day running.
The Super Eagles have just finished their workout held at Ecole Nationale de la Police and Sadiq was not involved in the session at all though he was present during the session.
There was every indication that he was going to sit out training even before it started as he was spotted wearing canvas shoes.
The Real Sociedad attacker was lying down while his teammates sweated it on the pitch.
Kaduna-born Sadiq, who comes from a footballing family with his father Umar Abubakar representing famous Nigerian club Ranchers Bees, was a surprise inclusion in the Super Eagles final squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The 26-year-old has not been at his best since recovering from a career threatening cruciate ligament injury that sidelined him for almost the whole of last season.
So far this season, he has netted two goals in twenty-two all-competition appearances for Real Sociedad.
