'An extraordinary player' - Oliseh admits Boniface missing AFCON 'will be a bad blow' for Super Eagles
Published: January 08, 2024
Former Juventus midfielder Sunday Oliseh has expressed his concerns for the Super Eagles over the fitness of Victor Boniface ahead of the start of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The red-hot Bayer Leverkusen striker missed the friendly games against Abu Dubai-based side Al Ghadbia yesterday and Guinea this afternoon due to injury.
Boniface is considered one of the vital players for José Peseiro's side and his lack of fitness could hamper the chances of Nigeria winning the AFCON for the fourth time in the nation's history
With 16 goals scored in all competitions this season, the 23-year-old is the player with the most goals scored in the Super Eagles squad and his absence could leave a huge vacuum in the attacking department.
Reacting to the news on the fitness of the Bayer Leverkusen star on his X account, Oliseh opined that the Super Eagles would be badly affected if he is ruled out of AFCON.
"I have watched Boniface closely all season, and he is simply an extraordinary player! Him missing AFCON will be a bad blow for Us. We need to have him fit at all cost as he is in my opinion, Definitely one of Naija's best hopes!!" Oliseh posted on X.
Boniface has never participated in the Africa Cup of Nations and will be hoping he can regain full fitness before the start of the tournament.
