Chukwueze, Nwabili report for Super Eagles duty; Uzoho, Osimhen, Ekong, 3 others keep Peseiro waiting
Published: January 03, 2024
AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze and South Africa-based goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili have arrived at the Super Eagles training camp in the United Arab Emirates ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Chukwueze is no stranger to playing at AFCON, with his first being in 2019 when he played a vital role in helping Nigeria scoop the bronze medal, and his second being in 2021.
He has made a total of 9 appearances in the competition and has two goals to his credit which he notched in his maiden outing.
The 24-year-old is one of José Peseiro's lethal forwards but his place in the starting XI is uncertain after some mixed performances from the former Villarreal wonderkid.
Nwabili on the other hand is one of the players yet to play at AFCON and has not made his competitive debut for the three-time African champions.
The Chippa United shot-stopper has been brought in to challenge Francis Uzoho for a place in the starting XI but it remains to be seen whether there is enough time to effect a change before the start of the competition.
Nwabili and Chukwueze join seventeen others in the camp with Victor Osimhen, Francis Uzoho, William Troost-Ekong, Sadiq Umar, Alhassan Yusuf and Kelechi Iheanacho yet to report for duty.
