Fake news alert: NFF dismiss sensational reports Nike launched new Super Eagles jerseys for AFCON
Published: December 29, 2023
According to a statement on their official X account, the Nigeria Football Federation has dismissed viral reports claiming that a new jersey was launched ahead of the Super Eagles' participation at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The statement also revealed that the NFF haven't agreed on a deal with Nike for the production of new jerseys and no jersey is being launched for the AFCON at the moment.
Rumors circulating on social media and in some sections of the local media sensationally claimed that the Super Eagles would be sporting new jerseys with effect from January 14, 2024 when they do battle with Equatorial Guinea in their Africa Cup of Nations opener.
The Super Eagles will soon begin their final preparations for Africa's biggest football tournament with manager Jose Peseiro expected to announce his final squad in the coming days.
Super Eagles' group opponents, Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau have released their final squad for the competition with only Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea yet to release theirs.
The competition will begin on January 13, 2024, with an encounter between host nation Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Abidjan.
