Terem Moffi: OGC Nice striker named in Nigeria's provisional AFCON squad passes fitness test pre-Lens
Published: December 19, 2023
Nigeria have gotten a major injury boost ahead of the start of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations training camp with OGC Nice striker Terem Moffi receiving the green light from his club's medical team to return to action.
Moffi has passed a fitness test ahead of the visit of Lens, corresponding to the 17th round of matches in the French Ligue 1, with OGC Nice manager Francesco Farioli naming the Super Eagles striker in his provisional squad.
Farioli was deprived of the services of his key striker for the visit to Le Havre last weekend because he felt discomfort in his hamstrings ahead of the game.
The former Lorient marksman is one of the four strikers named in the 21-man group announced on Tuesday evening, on the eve of the game against Lens.
However, it is a not a foregone conclusion that he will be included in the matchday squad, given that only nine players are allowed to be named on the substitutes bench.
Moffi and twelve other players classed as attackers have been selected in Nigeria's provisional squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and is highly tipped to be on the plane to Ivory Coast in the second week of January.
The 24-year-old has been involved in every single game played by the Super Eagles since the start of the season - four in total - and was on target in a friendly with Mozambique.
Moffi is going through a bad patch at OGC Nice, having netted just once in his last ten appearances in the French top-flight.
