Ex-Super Eagles striker Odemwingie makes interesting revelation about Nigeria's 2013 AFCON triumph
Published: December 19, 2023
Former West Brom forward and retired Nigeria international Osaze Odemwingie has revealed that he had dreamt that the Super Eagles would be triumphant at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
Led by the late Stephen Keshi, the West African giants conquered Africa in the said AFCON edition by beating Burkina Faso by a solitary goal scored by Sunday Mba in the final game played at the FNB Stadium in South Africa.
Since achieving that feat, Nigeria have not won the competition with their closest being a third-place finish in the 2019 edition.
Unfortunately for Odemwingie, he was not part of the squad that made history but revealed in a recent interview that the country won the competition.
Odemwingie told championat.com: "Before Nigeria's victory at the African Cup, I dreamed that Taiye Taiwo (he then played for Milan) lifted the trophy. Neither he nor I were on that team, but Nigeria won the tournament."
Odemwingie made his debut for Nigeria in an international friendly in 2002 and went on to make a total of 65 appearances across all competitions and had 11 goals.
He scored the game-winning goal in the 1-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina at the 2014 World Cup.
