Moffi remains a candidate to be named in Nigeria's AFCON squad after reveal by OGC Nice coach
Published: December 18, 2023
Contrary to sensational reports in the local media, OGC Nice center forward Terem Moffi is still a candidate to be named in the Super Eagles' Africa Cup of Nations squad.
On Saturday, OGC Nice were deprived of the services of the Nigeria international for the trip to Le Havre because he had complained of discomfort in the hamstrings.
It has come to light that Moffi was rested for the game as a precaution, with OGC Nice coach Francesco Farioli revealing at Monday's pre-match press conference that the striker could return to pitch as early as Wednesday for the visit of Lens.
Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro is monitoring the fitness of two other center forwards guaranteed spots in his provisional squad for the AFCON, with Leicester City's Kelechi Iheanacho battling to overcome an undisclosed illness and Napoli superstar Victor Osimhen picking up a knock in his last outing in the Serie A.
In quotes relayed by France Bleu, Farioli told reporters: "Moffi we'll try to get him on Wednesday. For Baldé there is a bruise, he also has to take exams."
Moffi has directly participated in six goals (4 goals, 2 assists) in fifteen appearances in the French top-flight so far this season.
The 24-year-old is aiming to feature in his first Africa Cup of Nations after he was left out of the squad for the tournament in Cameroon last year.
