Umar Sadiq steals the headlines again with another long-range beauty to salvage point for Real Sociedad
Published: December 03, 2023
Less than a week after ending a goal drought that lasted for 449 days, Umar Sadiq stole the headlines again after scoring another spectacular goal for Real Sociedad in their La Liga meeting with CA Osasuna at the Estadio El Sadar (Pamplona) on Saturday night.
The 2016 Olympics bronze medalist is beginning to get his mojo back after recovering from a cruciate ligament injury that kept him sidelined for around eleven months.
His goal against CA Osasuna meant he has now scored in back-to-back La Liga games for the first time since September 3, 2022 when he netted on his debut for Real Sociedad.
After he was an option off the bench for Wednesday's goalless draw versus Salzburg in the Champions League, Sadiq returned to the starting lineup for the trip to Osasuna.
Moi Gómez - well known for his stint at Villarreal - blasted in from close range inside the opening seconds of the contest to give Osasuna the lead, with Real Sociedad barely out of their own half.
Five minutes before the interval, Sadiq, who was Real Sociedad's dangerman in the first stanza, scored the equalizer for the visitors with a cracker from outside the box.
Sadiq, who has yet to complete a full ninety minutes since the season began, was withdrawn in the 75th minute just as was the case against Sevilla on November 26.
After fifteen matchdays, Real Sociedad are sixth in the provisional La Liga standings with 26 points accumulated.
