Three Super Eagles players that need to step up their game ahead of World Cup qualifiers
Published: October 14, 2023
The Super Eagles are set to face Lesotho and Zimbabwe respectively in their first two World Cup qualifiers next month.
In a bid to prepare for the two vital games, the Nigeria Football Federation lined up two friendlies against Saudi Arabia, which was played on Friday. and Mozambique which is set to go down on Monday.
Ahead of the World Cup qualifiers, here are three players that must step up their game.
1. Francis Uzoho: The Omonia Nicosia goalkeeper has always divided opinion among fans and didn't cover himself in glory against Saudi Arabia.
It appears that Uzoho still has the backing of the coaching staff, but he will have to improve in order not to cost Nigeria a place at the FIFA World Cup for the second consecutive time.
2. Samuel Chukwueze: The AC Milan winger has failed to string consistent performances since making his debut in 2018.
The 24-year-old has managed just five goals and one assist in thirty appearances, which is a poor return.
He has to justify his inclusion as soon as possible so as not to lose his place in the team.
The attacking department is the strongest in the squad and no player can afford to be inconsistent.
3. Ademola Lookman: Since switching his international allegiance, the Atalanta forward has struggled with consistency.
Proof of this is his recent performance against São Tomé and Príncipe and Saudi Arabia respectively
He was brilliant against the Falcons and True Parrots Team by notching a goal and an assist in the encounter but followed it up with a poor performance against the Green Falcons.
The 25-year-old has to improve to protect his place in the team.
