Napoli and Leicester City strikers depart Super Eagles camp, out of friendly against Mozambique
Published: October 14, 2023
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and Leicester City star Kelechi Iheanacho will not participate in Monday's international friendly between Nigeria and Mozambique.
Osimhen and Iheanacho left the Super Eagles training camp in Portugal for their respective bases on Saturday.
The Super Eagles number 9 suffered a hamstring injury during the second half of the national team's 2-2 draw with Saudi Arabia on Friday evening and had to make way for Terem Moffi just before the hour mark.
Manager Jose Peseiro stated during his post-match briefing that Osimhen was due to undergo an MRI examination today to determine the extent of his injury.
As for Iheanacho, arguably the standout player for the Super Eagles against the Green Falcons, he was excused from camp to attend to a family emergency.
Peseiro now has at his disposal only three players classed as centre-forwards, namely Terem Moffi, Victor Boniface and Sadiq Umar,.
Meanwhile, Olorunleke Ojo should be available for selection against Mozambique.
The Enyimba goalkeeper arrived in Portugal during dinner last night and trained with the Super Eagles squad today.
