Peseiro gets another injury boost as key defender is fit enough to be named in West Brom gameday squad
Published: October 03, 2023
Nigeria manager Jose Peseiro has received another welcome injury boost before the October internationals against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Former Arsenal youth team captain Semi Ajayi, who had been rated touch and go for the friendlies, is fit enough to be included in West Brom's matchday squad for their Championship clash with Sheffield Wednesday this evening.
The central defender was dropped for the Baggies' trip to Preston North End this past weekend due to a failed fitness test.
Ajayi rolled his ankle during the goalless draw against Millwall on September 23 and had been undergoing treatment since then.
The 29-year-old has emerged as a key player under Jose Peseiro with the Portuguese football tactician naming the West Brom star in the starting lineup seven times from a possible ten since he took over the managerial reigns.
Peseiro also received a boost on Monday as Calvin Bassey, who was forced off injured during Fulham's Carabao Cup tie versus Norwich City, was called up for the Premier League meeting with Chelsea, though he was a non-playing substitute.
On another positive note, Fenerbahce fullback Bright Osayi-Samuel returned to action on Sunday after recovering from a minor injury.
Nottingham Forest Player of the Month for September, Ola Aina remains questionable for the friendlies after suffering a muscle-related injury.
