Omeruo issues wake-up call to NFF as he makes scathing remarks on Super Eagles coaching situation
Published: August 29, 2023
Kenneth Omeruo has expressed his displeasure at the uncertainty regarding the coaching position of the Super Eagles ahead of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against São Tomé and Príncipe in September.
The position is technically vacant as a result of the expiration of the contract of Nigeria's former head coach, Jose Peseiro last month.
The Nigeria Football Federation are yet to decide on whether to renew the Portuguese tactician's contract or let him leave permanently.
It has been suggested that the NFF are planning on naming an interim coach to take charge of the Super Eagles' tie against São Tomé and Príncipe
Omeruo has expressed his displeasure towards the situation which he said needs to be resolved for the benefit of the team.
"When it comes to talent, Nigeria have amazing players," Omeruo told Arise TV.
"Even those that are on the bench in the national team go to their club sides and bang in goals week in, week out.
"We need to have a stable technical crew. A technical crew will take us to where we are supposed to be and give us exactly that we get in Europe.
"We do not even know who will be the coach in the next game. It is crazy, and it has to be fixed."
The Kasimpasa centre-back featured in Nigeria's 3-2 win in the last qualification fixture against Sierra Leone in June.
Omeruo has been involved in 3 of the 5 games played so far by the Super Eagles in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification series.
