AC Milan set for talks with Chelsea over loan deal for Super Eagles-eligible midfielder
Published: June 20, 2023
Italian giants AC Milan have reignited their interest in England U20 international of Nigerian descent Carney Chukwuemeka.
The Rossoneri were heavily linked with a move for the talented midfielder last summer but were priced out of a move by Aston Villa, with Chelsea eventually winning the race for his services.
Chukwuemeka is held in high regard by the Blues hierarchy and there's no plan to include a buy option in the event that he is loaned out this summer.
Although his quality is not in doubt, the 19-year-old struggled for game time in his first season at Stamford Bridge, having made just two starts from a possible fifty in all competitions.
According to Corriere della Sera, via Tuttomercatoweb.com, AC Milan and Chelsea have talked about the possibility of Chukwuemeka heading to the Rossoneri, and new discussions are expected between the parties this week.
AC Milan are in the market for a central midfielder following the departures of Tiémoué Bakayoko and Aster Vranckx, and they are considering parting company with Yacine Adli.
In addition, Algeria midfielder Ismael Bennacer is expected to miss the first part of the 2023-2024 campaign given the injury he suffered at the back end of last season.
Chukwuemeka logged fifteen appearances and was in action for 362 minutes over the course of the 2022-2023 season.
