'Nigeria is a difficult team' - South Korea U20 striker whose role model is Harry Kane admits
Published: June 04, 2023
South Korea U20 striker Lee Young-jun has admitted that the Flying Eagles are a difficult team to play against ahead of this evening's FIFA U20 World Cup quarterfinal showdown at the Estadio Único Madre de Ciudades in Santiago del Estero.
Lee Young-jun has been one of South Korea's standout players at the ongoing tournament in Argentina, with a goal or assist in three of the four games played by the Asian powerhouse.
The South Koreans have performed well in the 2023 Fifa U20 World Cup, winning two games and drawing twice, while their opponent on Sunday, Nigeria have won three of their four matches.
The Flying Eagles' only loss was against Brazil and they went into the match knowing they had already qualified for the round of 16.
"Nigeria is a difficult team. A lot of people say that. Some people think we're a weak team, but looking at what we've done so far, we think we can go to a higher level," Lee Young-ju was quoted as saying by news.mt.co.kr.
"If we're well prepared, I think the results will follow."
When asked if there's a player he wants to emulate, he replied: "I really like Harry Kane. You know all of his strengths, but he is also a shooter, but he is a good player in many ways. Kane is a role model."
The winner of the quarterfinal clash between South Korea and Nigeria will face Italy at the Estadio Único Diego Armando Maradona, La Plata on June 8th with kickoff scheduled for 2200 hours.
