'We watched videos' - Argentina GK anticipates tough match against very physical Flying Eagles
Published: May 31, 2023
Argentina U20 goalkeeper Federico Gomes Gerth is anticipating a tough match when the six-time world champions trade tackles with the Flying Eagles in a round of 16 Fifa U20 World Cup clash at the Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario, San Juan on Wednesday night.
Seen as one of the stars of the future, Gerth was taken to the Fifa World Cup in Qatar as the '27th player' and trained with the likes of Lionel Messi, Emiliano Martínez and Enzo Fernández during the tournament.
Gerth has played down suggestions that Argentina are the favorites heading into the game against Nigeria, and highlighted the strengths of the Ladan Bosso-led side.
The Tigre glovesman is considered a key player in the Argentina squad, having started all the matches in the group stage and was beaten just once by Uzbekistan's Makhmud Makhamadzhonov.
Speaking before the highly-anticipated encounter, Gerth, one of three Argentina players on media duties on Tuesday, was quoted as saying by Ole: "We watched videos, it's a very physical and organized team.
"We are going to go out and play in the same way that we have been doing, we will try to play our game and give our best."
Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg will be the man in the middle for the Argentina versus Nigeria clash, and he will be assisted by Mahbod Beigei and Andreas Soderkvist on the two flanks.
