Published: May 24, 2023
The Flying Eagles of Nigeria recorded their second victory in the FIFA U-20 World Cup as they defeated Gli Azzurrini of Italy 2-0 at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas, Mendoza on Wednesday evening.
Ladan Bosso's men have now booked a place in the round of 16 with a game to spare
Allnigeriasoccer.com rates the Nigerian players on parade.
The Starters
Goalkeeper
Chijioke Aniagboso: Due to the defensive discipline of the players in front of him, he was largely untested but was composed on a few occasions when the Italians threatened the goal. 7/10
Defenders
Daniel Bameyi: The skipper led by example as he was an astute presence defensively and was an attacking outlet particularly in the second half when the Flying Eagles were looking for a breakthrough.7.5/10
Benjamin Fredrick: He picked up a careless yellow card but like Ogwuche, went about with his duties properly and helped keep the young Italians quiet. 7/10
Abel Ogwuche: He was aggressive with his duties giving no room for the Italians which helped Nigeria keep a clean sheet against a formidable opponent. 8/10
Solomon Agbalaka: He was unlucky not to have conceded a penalty but was dogged defensively and combined well with his wingers when he needed to 6.5/10
Midfielders and strikers
Daniel Daga: He went on duty very well and was at the right place to sniff out the danger. He had a good shift in the midfield. He's truly a star in the making. 8/10
Samson Lawal: He was hardworking but didn't do much with the ball which explains why he was brought off at the start of the second half. 5/10
Victor Eletu: He offered the needed grit and composure in the midfield but needs to do more when in possession. He was eventually replaced due to injury .6.5/10
Jude Sunday: He wasn't as electric as he was in the game against the Dominicans as he was started on the right side of the attack before switching to the left in the second half. He deservedly got Nigeria's second and must be happy to have finally gotten on the scoresheet.7.5/10
Salim Fago Lawal: As opposed to the game against the Dominican Republic, he was more involved in the game with his good hold-up and combined well with other players. He took his goal well and put Nigeria on the path to victory. 7.5/10
Ibrahim Beji Muhamed: started on the left side of the attack and was disappointing yet again. He was rightly subbed off at the start of the second half 4/10
The Substitutes
Umeh Emmanuel: He was more involved than he did against the Dominicans and assisted Nigeria's first goal with a well-weighted cross.7/10
Tochukwu Nnadi: He would have been disappointed not to have started but was decent when he came on. 6/10
Joshua John: He replaced the injured Eletu and was decent with his duties.5.5/10
Haliru Sarki: He was lively once again with his blistering pace and good feet. He has earned the right to start ahead of Beji Muhammad. 6.5/10
