Opposition watch U20 WC: Barcelona & Real Madrid kids, MLSer named in Dominican Republic squad

Flying Eagles' first opponent at the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup, the Dominican Republic have announced their roster for the tournament which begins in Argentina a week on Saturday, with some talented players on the books of European clubs making the squad list.
The Dominican Republic U20 coach Walter Benitez has selected three goalkeepers, seven defenders, four midfielders and seven strikers on his 21-man roster.
Barcelona youth teamer Derek Cuevas, Real Madrid-owned striker Alejandro Martín Sapeg, Ingolstadt goalkeeper Enrique Bösl, RB Leipzig's Oliver Schmidhauser, who featured in this season's UEFA Youth League, have been named in the final squad.
A player with Major League Soccer experience, Edison Azcona, who has made five appearances in the American top-flight for Inter Miami, is also part of the selection.
Derek Cuevas and Enrique Bosl are expected to join the Dominican Republic U20 squad in Buenos Aires on Thursday, May 11.
As part of their preparations for their opening match against Nigeria at the World Cup, the Dominican Republic will be facing Argentina on Thursday May 11 and Ecuador on Sunday May 14, with both games behind closed doors.
The Flying Eagles will take on Dominican Republic at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas, Mendoza on Sunday, May 21.
