Hale End product Tella names the two Arsenal legends that are his role models
Published: May 08, 2023
Nathan Tella has revealed that he has always been an Arsenal fan and named two Arsenal legends Thierry Henry and Theo Walcott as his role models.
This comes as no surprise as Tella is also a product of Arsenal's famous academy, the Hale End Academy. He spent 10 years at the club as a young player, representing the Gunners' youth sides.
Tella left Arsenal in 2017 to join Southampton where he later made his senior debut in 2020 as a substitute in the Saints' 3-0 win over Norwich City in a Premier League fixture.
The 23-year-old is currently on loan at Burnley from Southampton and has been instrumental in the former's promotion back to the Premier League.
He has netted 17 goals and registered five assists for the Clarets this season in the Championship
Tella while speaking in an interview with Football Daily revealed Henry and Walcott as his role models and said:
I've always been an Arsenal fan and at that time I'd look at Thierry Henry and say he was my biggest inspiration in football.
"He's someone I tried to model my game after. Of course, at seven years old you can't really say you play like someone but the stuff he was doing in games I would try to do with my local team.
"Sometimes it worked, sometimes it wouldn't but just having the confidence to try it, I feel like that's what made me stand out a bit at an early age.
"And then as I was growing up a bit and getting older I started to look at Theo Walcott who moved from Southampton to Arsenal.
"For me, being young and being at Arsenal at the time, I wanted to envision myself having that sort of exposure at such a young age.
"He was someone I looked at and I wanted to play my game like, especially because I moved to the right wing where he played"
Tella didn't have the opportunity to play with Henry who had long retired but has been able to play alongside Walcott at Southampton.
He is recovering from an injury at the moment which has made him miss Burnley's last four matches in the Championship.
