'We'll prepare well for Nigeria' - Burkina Faso U17 coach targets World Cup ticket
Published: May 08, 2023
Burkina Faso U17s head coach Brahima Traore is targeting a World Cup ticket at the expense of the Golden Eaglets.
Against all odds, Burkina Faso advanced to the last eight of the 2023 Africa U17 Cup of Nations on Sunday after coming from behind to beat defending champions Cameroon.
In a repeat of the WAFU-UFOA Zone B showpiece, Burkina Faso will lock horns with the Golden Eaglets in Thursday's quarterfinal showdown at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, Algiers
Both teams are looking for a victory that will guarantee them a place in the 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup and also keep alive their hopes of winning the Africa Cup of Nations.
The fighting spirit Burkina Faso showed in their 2-1 win over Cameroon has given Traore cause for optimism.
"We had two objectives in this tournament; first to get to the semi-finals and then to fight for the title," Traore said at the post-match press conference after the win over the Lionceaux indomptables du Cameroun.
"We will prepare well for Nigeria to enable us get to the semis and earn the World Cup ticket."
The Golden Eaglets have qualified for the FIFA U17 World Cup in its various guises on twelve occasions.
