2023 AFCONQ: Three reasons Moffi should start against Guinea-Bissau

Terem Moffi sat idly on the bench as the Super Eagles of Nigeria lost to the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau on Friday evening.

The decision by Jose Peseiro not to use the in-form striker didn't go down well with a large section of the fans and pundits alike. 

With Nigeria desperate for a result on Monday at the Estadio 24 de Setembro, it will be surprising if the Portuguese tactician doesn't start the Nice striker.

Below are three reasons Peseiro must start Moffi in Monday's encounter.

1. Besides the fact that Moffi is having a stupendous season in Ligue 1, netting 15 goals for both Lorient and Nice, the threat that he and Osimhen will pose to the Djurtus' defence cannot be overstated.

Osimhen and Moffi have started one game together in the colours of  Nigeria and in that only encounter the Super Eagles annihilated Sao Tome and Principe 10-0 with the duo scoring 4 goals and 2 goals respectively.

Injuries to Osimhen have made it impossible for the two to play together since then.

2. Another important point is that with Osimhen's strength, Moffi will find it easier to run into the pocket of spaces left behind the Guinea-Bissau's defence whose centre-backs will be dealing with the energetic Osimhen. 

The 23-year-old has been adjudged as one of the fastest players in Ligue 1 this season alongside Kylian Mbappe, his pace would be of good use to break down the home side.

3. Lastly, having Osimhen and Moffi play together would also allow the home side who will have the support of a mammoth crowd thread with caution when they seek to attack because of the threat of both strikers.

In conclusion, it is difficult to see Peseiro move away from his 4-4-2 preferred formation and if that is the case, it would be unwise of the Portuguese not to unleash a two-man strike force of  Osimhen and Moffi against Guinea-Bissau on Monday.
