U20 AFCON : Why Flying Eagles must beat Tunisia in third place playoff
Published: March 10, 2023
The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will trade tackles with the young Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in their third-place match at the U20 African Cup of Nations.
Nigeria lost to Gambia while Tunisia lost to Senegal in the semifinals.
Ladan Bosso and his boys came into the tournament with the expectation of winning the tournament for the eighth time and not only have they dashed the hopes of Nigerians but also disappointed with their lackluster performances.
This is why winning the third-place match is paramount.
While they have secured a World Cup ticket, it is equally important that the Flying Eagles don't leave Egypt empty-handed.
The last time Nigeria participated in the U-20 African Cup of Nations, Nigeria finished 4th.
For a team that has established itself as the dominant force in this competition, it would be ridiculous not to win a medal for the second consecutive time.
More so, a win on Friday could be a morale booster for the boys ahead of the World Cup.
Nothing tastes as good as victory and the positive effect this could have on the psychology of the players cannot be overemphasized ahead of the Fifa World cup.
Lastly, a win for the Flying Eagles with a convincing performance will give Nigerians a glimmer of hope that they can put on a good showing in Indonesia later in the year at the Fifa U-20 World cup.
