'I hope his team will deliver' - Ex-West Brom LB backs Flying Eagles to pick World Cup ticket
Published: February 17, 2023
Former West Brom left-back and retired Nigeria international, Ifeanyi Udeze has backed the Nigeria U-20 national team, Flying Eagles to lift the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations trophy.
Nigeria are seven-time champions of the tournament which serves as qualifiers to the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia this May.
Africa will have four representatives at the U-20 FIFA World Cup tournament and the Nigerian side have landed in Egypt having had a great preparation ahead of the AFCON in Egypt.
The Flying Eagles' first game will be on Sunday evening against West African rivals Senegal.
Manager Ladan Bosso is confident that his team can win the tournament in Egypt and considers this team better than the one he took to the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada.
Reacting to Bosso's bold statement, former Super Eagles left back Ifeanyi Udeze believes that the U-20 side could be the best ever and tips the team to indeed pick one of four tickets to represent Africa at the U-20 World Cup.
"Thank God they arrived safely. Bosso understands the task which is to qualify," Udeze told Brila FM.
"It won't be easy for the Flying Eagles and this is the first time that Bosso is sounding so confident, so I hope his team will deliver. This is also the first time that I am having confidence in Bosso's team," Udeze affirmed.
The CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations was formerly called the Africa Youth Championship.
The Flying Eagles will also face hosts, Egypt, and Mozambique in the other Group A games at the AFCON.
