Lookman best-rated player in Serie A Team of the Month but Osimhen misses out
Published: February 06, 2023Ademola Lookman has been named in the Italian Serie A Team of the Month for January 2023 by celebrated football statistics website Whoscored.com but there was no spot for the league's leading marksman Victor Osimhen.
Last month, the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup winner notched five goals in five matches, netting in every single game he played in with the exception of Napoli's 1-0 defeat at Inter Milan on January 4.
2017 FIFA U20 World Cup winner with the Young Lions, Lookman also mustered five goals while registering two assists in his four appearances in the Serie A.
The 25-year-old started the month by firing blanks against Spezia, netted braces against Salernitana and Juventus, before continuing his scoring run against Sampdoria.
Lookman, who has played mostly as a second striker this season, was deployed on the right side of midfield in the Serie A Team of the Month.
With an average rating of 8.12, the Super Eagles winger was the best-rated player in the Team of the Month, placing first ahead of Atalanta teammate Jeremie Boga (7.84) and Juventus' Argentina World Cup winner Ángel Di María (7.83).
Only Osimhen with sixteen goals to his name has netted more than Lookman (12) in the Italian top division this season.
