Ex-Aston Villa midfielder insists N20b is sufficient for Chelsea to sign Anglo-Nigerian winger
Published: January 17, 2023Former Aston Villa midfielder Karim El Ahmadi has insisted that he would sell Anglo-Nigerian winger Nonso Madueke to Chelsea for a transfer fee of 40 million euros (approximately N20 billion in Nigerian currency) if he were the Technical Director of PSV Eindhoven.
Chelsea have held talks with the Dutch Eredivisie giants about the signing of the England U21 international of Nigerian descent but their initial bid of 30 million euros was deemed insufficient.
The Premier League side have not yet made a follow-up offer for the signature of the 20-year-old and it is likely things have gone quiet in recent days because The Blues were prioritizing the signing of Mykhaylo Mudryk.
El Ahmadi reckons that 40 million euros would be enough for Chelsea to prise the talented Madueke from PSV but stressed that a deal will be difficult to pull off given that another key player in the squad, Cody Gakpo has already been sold to Liverpool.
"I would sell him. I have to say that when I see Xavi Simons play I think they can reach the absolute top. When I see that ball handling, I think they are fantastic players," El Ahmadi said at ESPN, via Voetbal Nieuws.
"They just sold Gakpo, so it will be difficult. I don't think PSV will do it soon, but forty million. That's the same as what I had with Álvarez at Ajax, who then got fifty million. I had already sold him." ,
PSV manager Ruud van Nistelrooy picked Madueke in his starting lineup for Sunday's 2-2 draw with Fortuna Sittard amid speculation surrounding the future of the former Tottenham Hotspur schoolboy.
