Chukwuemeka returns to Chelsea squad for first time in two months in 2-0 win v Bournemouth
Published: December 27, 2022There was no problem for Graham Potter's men as they returned to competitive action with a routine 2-0 win over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening.
The big news from a Nigerian perspective was the return of England U20 international of Nigerian descent Carney Chukwuemeka to Chelsea's matchday squad.
It was the first time in 66 days that the former Aston Villa wonderkid received a call-up, having recovered from a hamstring injury that saw him miss five games in all competitions.
Chukwuemeka did not see any action against the Cherries as he remained rooted to the bench for the fourth time in this season's Premier League.
Chelsea were in control at the interval thanks to goals from Kai Havertz and Mason Mount and they had chances to extend their lead in the second half but failed to convert.
Former Chelsea youth team teenage sensation Dominic Solanke went the distance against his former employers.
Chelsea are eighth in the standings with twenty four points accumulated from fifteen matches.
The Blues are next in action away at Nottingham Forest on January 1, 2023, before two games against Manchester City in league and cup.
