'It would be a big dream' - Celtic's Nigeria-eligible CB reiterates he wants to play for Germany
Published: December 12, 2022Glasgow Celtic central defender Moritz Jenz has reiterated that his international future lies with the German national team.
The Berlin native qualifies to represent the Super Eagles using the granny rule but dreams of representing Germany at future World Cups.
Jenz admitted himself that he is not well known in German football circles because he spent the formative years of his career as a footballer at the Fulham Academy after spells with the youth teams of Alemannia 06 Haselhorst, SC Siemensstadt and Tennis Borussia.
The 23-year-old feels that he is not on the radar of the German Football Association because he did not play for Germany's youth teams.
Asked why he has not been invited to Germany's national teams, Jenz explained in an interview with Transfermarkt : "I don't know myself. Maybe because of my youth in England I wasn't on the radar.
"Of course it would be a big dream to one day wear the jersey of the German national team to wear - and that's what I'm working towards."
The Nigeria Football Federation convinced another Berlin-born center back Leon Balogun to pledge his international future to the Super Eagles over his country of birth and cap-tied him in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Tanzania in September 2016.
Hoffenheim star Kevin Akpoguma is also tied to Nigeria after previously representing Germany's youth teams.
