'I still feel very connected to Nigeria' - Arsenal star Saka says after paying for 120 kids to undergo surgery

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka says he still feels connected to Nigeria after paying for 120 children in Nigeria to undergo surgeries. 

Saka teamed up with charity BigShoe to help 120 children who were suffering from hernias and brain tumors in Kano State, Nigeria.

The 120 operations were successfully completed in October 2022, with Saka revealing that he's delighted to be in a position to ease the struggles of children.

 "I feel blessed to be in a position where I can contribute to making the children's lives easier and better through these surgeries," Saka was quoted as saying by The Sun UK.

"I still feel very connected to Nigeria.

"For me, it is very important to use my abilities to have a positive impact where I can and I have to say a big thank you to the whole BigShoe team for making this possible.

"For me it is important that every child has the same opportunity to achieve their dreams.

"If I can do anything to help then I really want to do this, it was very important to me.

"It makes me happy when I can see the kids happy and their parents happy.

"I want to do more and more and help as many children as I can.

"This isn't about me, it is about the 120 children."

The 21-year-old is not the only footballer of Nigeria descent to contribute to the welfare of Nigerians.

David Alaba recently donated an ultra-modern biodegradable toilet facility at the Ogere Remo community in Ogun State, Nigeria.

Saka was born in London to Nigerian parents and became cap-tied to England after featuring in a UEFA Nations League match against Belgium in November 2020.
