Ex-African POTY hails Willock for brilliant strike v Chelsea, condemns Tuchel's sack

Former Super Eagles striker Victor Ikpeba has described the sacking of former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel as a hasty decision in the aftermath of poor results under the reins of current head coach Graham Potter.

The 1997 African Footballer of The Year winner bared his mind on the final episode of the Nigeria version of Monday Night Football for the year 2022 - the football magazine show on Supersport on Monday evenings.

The Blues were beaten 1-0 by Newcastle United over the weekend and the 'Prince of Monaco' bared his mind on the happenings at Stamford Bridge.

"Changing of managers sometimes is not a guarantee (for success)," Ikpeba noted.

"They (Chelsea) could have kept faith with Thomas Tuchel. I think the manner by which the manager was sacked, we agreed that it was too early for Tuchel to be sacked.

"I think for Chelsea manager Graham Potter that led (managed) Brighton previously, he has his work cut out and the pressures are now mounting.

Ikpeba went on to give the graphic description of the goal scored by Joe Willock and added.

"Koulibaly couldn't stop him (Willock). In situations like that, it was difficult to see what was happening for the goalkeeper. What a strike by Willock," the onetime Borussia Dortmund and Real Betis forward stated.

The Premier League now goes on a break as the 2022 FIFA World Cup begins this weekend in Qatar.
