Shoretire non-playing substitute as Manchester United are beaten by Aston Villa
Published: November 06, 2022Manchester United suffered a 3-1 defeat Sunday afternoon against Aston Villa in Unai Emery's first game in charge of the Villains.
Flying Eagles eligible youngster Shola Shoretire was an unused substitute for Erik ten Hag's team.
The Nigeria-eligible forward who has not made a first team appearance in the Premier League but was on the bench for last Thursday's UEFA Europa League Clash against Real Sociedad has scored four goals in eight Premier League 2 appearances this season.
Today's clash against Aston Villa was Shoretire's first call up for a Premier League game since the closing day of last season.
Leon Bailey put Villa ahead in the 7th minute of the game with a narrowed finish to the bottom right corner.
Lucas Digne made it 2-0 with a fantastic free kick five minutes later, bending the ball to the same side as the first went.
The United side was captained by Cristiano Ronaldo in the absence of Bruno Fernandes who was suspended after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season last weekend.
Luke Shaw ensured the Red Devils reduced the deficit in the 44th minute when his shot deflected off Jacob Ramsey who was consequently credited with an own goal.
Ramsey himself then restored Villa's two-goal advantage when he rifled in a good finish in the 49th minute.
