Anglo-Nigerian named in Manchester United's travelling squad for UEL game
Published: November 02, 2022Manchester United have revealed their traveling squad for Thursday evening's UEFA Europa League match against Real Sociedad at Reale Arena (Donostia-San Sebastián).
England U19 international of Nigerian descent Shola Shoretire has been selected by manager Erik ten Hag for the trip to Basque Country.
The unavailability of Antony and Jadon Sancho, and absence of Anthony Martial opened the door for Shoretire to be included in the traveling party for the matchday six clash.
Twenty three players were on the plane to Spain including five classed as forwards namely Shoretire, Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Elanga and Alejandro Garnacho.
It is a foregone conclusion that the Anglo-Nigerian will be named in the matchday squad to face Real Sociedad as UEFA allows twenty three players to be dressed for the group stage of the Europa League.
It would be Shoretire's first squad involvement since the appointment of Ten Hag as coach, with his last appearance for the senior team coming on the final day of the 2021-2022 season at Crystal Palace.
The 18-year-old has been in excellent form for Manchester United's development squad, scoring five goals in six all-competition appearances for the age group in October 2022.
