PL 2 : 2019 Golden Eaglets invitee Ebiowei scores against former club Arsenal
Published: October 31, 2022Arsenal have returned to the top of the Premier League 2 standings after a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace in a London derby on Monday evening.
Seven players of Nigerian descent were on parade from the very beginning of the game, with 2019 Golden Eaglets invitee Malcolm Ebiowei, goalkeeper Owen Goodman, Tayo Adaramola, David Ozoh and David Omilabu starting for Crystal Palace, while Nathan Butler-Oyedeji and Zach Awe were named in Arsenal's starting lineup.
Ebiowei, with a composed left-footed finish, gave the Eagles the lead in the 28th minute, but did not celebrate his goal as his teammates jumped on him.
The 19-year-old left the Emirates Stadium under a cloud in 2019, with the Gunners not offering him a scholarship after he attended a Nigeria U17 training camp in Turkey.
Ebiowei caused all sort of problems to the Arsenal backline and was close to breaking the deadlock in the ninth minute but his shot from 25 yards went just over the bar.
After Arsenal equalised through Bandeira, the England U20 international of Nigerian descent was close to restoring the Eagles lead but his effort grazed off the bar three minutes into the second half.
Ebiowei made his Premier League debut against Arsenal on the opening day of the season and has gone on to make two further appearances for the first team.
