Super Eagles defender equals Hajduk Split record held by Watford manager Bilic

Super Eagles star Chidozie Awaziem has equaled Slavan Bilic's long-standing record as the top scoring defender for Hajduk Split in a single season.

The 25-year-old scored in Hajduk Split's 3-1 home win over HNK Gorica on Wednesday evening, bringing his goal tally to four in eleven league games.

Since the 1992/1993 season, no defender aside Bilić, who was appointed Watford manager in September, scored four goals in a single campaign in the Croatian top-flight for the Whites.

The goals scored by the Nigeria international have come against NK Lokomotiva, HNK Rijeka, NK Varazdin and HNK Gorica.

Awaziem, who is on a season-long loan from Portuguese club Boavista , has as many as 20 games to be the outright holder of the record for most goals in a single season by a Hajduk Split player.

Hajduk Split will take on NK Lokomotiva Zagreb in a league game at the Stadion Kranjčevićeva on Sunday and the AFCON 2019 bronze medalist will be looking forward to helping his side reduce the five points gap between them and league leaders Dinamo Zagreb.

Prior to joining HNK Hajduk Split in Croatia, he played in the Turkish Super Lig, French Ligue 1 and the Spanish La Liga.
