Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that the Nigeria Football Federation could provisionally cap-tie talented Arsenal central midfielder Tim Akinola this week.
Akinola has put himself in contention to be named in the Dream Team VIII matchday squad when they take on Tanzania in a 2023 Africa U23 Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday having reported for international duty in Ibadan.
The Lokoja-born midfielder. who is also eligible to represent England, has been training with Nigeria's Olympic National Team since Monday, October 24 and everything is going well for him as he arrived at the team's camp in tiptop condition.
Akinola has been impressive since he started training with the Nigeria U23s and there are indications that he will be involved in some capacity against Tanzania.
For reasons best known to them, English Premier League table toppers Arsenal didn't want Akinola to honour the invitation from the Nigerian Federation, while Chesterfield higher-ups gave him their blessing to travel to Ibadan.
Since his loan move to Chesterfield on transfer deadline day, he has appeared in four matches in the National League.
The Africa U23 Cup of Nations, which will be held in Morocco in November 2023, will determine Africa’s flag bearers at the Men’s Football Tournament of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
