Potter includes Nigeria-eligible midfielder in Chelsea's travelling squad to face Salzburg
Published: October 24, 2022Super Eagles-eligible central midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka is in contention to make his UEFA Champions League debut on Tuesday evening when Chelsea take on Salzburg at the Red Bull Arena (Wals-Siezenheim).
The England U20 international was among the Chelsea players that landed in Austria on Monday ahead of the Champions League matchday five fixture.
Manager Graham Potter has taken seven midfielders to Austria namely Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mason Mount, Denis Zakaria, Conor Gallagher and Chukwuemeka.
Chukwuemeka will be hoping to make his Champions League debut tomorrow evening, after he was a non-playing substitute against Dinamo Zagreb, Salzburg and AC Milan.
It would be an emotional moment for him should he step out on to the pitch as he was born in the country where the game is being played.
The 19-year-old recently started seeing minutes, making his Chelsea debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers before further Premier League appearances in back-to-back matches against Brentford and Manchester United.
Salzburg and Chelsea played out a 1-1 draw in the first group stage meeting at Stamford Bridge, with cap-tied Switzerland international of Nigerian descent Noah Okafor scoring the only goal in the 75th minute.
