Match winner Awoniyi sets Nottingham Forest record in 1-0 win over former club Liverpool

Taiwo Awoniyi scored in Nottingham Forest's 1-0 win over Liverpool FC on Saturday afternoon.

Awóníyì started upfront alongside Morgan Gibbs-White and Jesse Lingard in a 4-3-3 formation as he ended up scoring against his former employers.

His fellow Nigerian, Emmanuel Dennis was an unused substitute in Forest's famous win.

Nottingham Forest pulled off a huge win over Klopp's men in a Premier League game played at the City Ground.

Liverpool came out smoking at the blast of the whistle as they dominated the entire proceedings.

In the 19th minute, Awoniyi laid a pass for Kouyaté but his shot was saved by Alisson.

Despite Liverpool's dominance, they failed to break a formidable Forest backline and at halftime, there was nothing to separate both sides as it ended goalless.

In the 54th minute Awoniyi stole the ball away from Gomez but he was hauled to the floor and Gomez was shown a yellow card.

Just a minute later, Awoniyi's effort from close range hit the post but was there to tuck the rebound past Alisson.

In doing so, the Nigeria nationa lteamer became the first Nottingham Forest player to score in each of his first three Premier League starts at the City Ground, according to the statisticians at OPTA.

In the 58th minute Awoniyi found Gibbs-White but Milner denied him with a huge block.

His eventful day was over as he was brought off for Joe Warral in the 63rd minute.

The 25-year-old was once on the books Liverpool. He joined the Reds in August 2015 from Imperial Academy and eventually left the club in July 2021 after embarking on seven loan moves.
