PL 2 : Shoretire nets brace as Manchester United hold Chelsea in six-goal thriller
Published: October 15, 2022Officials representing the Nigerian Nationwide League One were seemingly in attendance at Kingsmeadow in Surrey on Saturday afternoon as Manchester United held Chelsea in a six-goal Premier League 2 thriller.
Exciting fullback Derrick Abu started for Chelsea while Shola Shoretire was back on U21 duties after he was omitted from the matchday squad against Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia in a Europa League game on Thursday night.
Abu was deployed at right-back in a 4-2-3-1 formation, while Shoretire played wide as part of a three-man attack in a 4-3-3 formation.
Despite Manchester United taking the lead through Isak Hansen-Aaröen in the 26th minute, Chelsea had the visitors on the ropes as goals from Lewis Hall, Cesare Casadei and Jude Soonsup-Bell saw them establish a two-goal lead with eight minutes of normal time left.
Manchester United U21s seemed destined for their fourth loss of the season but Shoretire had other ideas and tapped in from close range to reduce the deficit in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
The comeback was completed in the 96th minute as Shoretire netted his second goal of the afternoon, tapping into the net again after he was found by Marc Jurado.
Shoretire has either scored or assisted in each of his last three games in the Premier League 2.
