Gunners and Super Eagles legend sends message to Arsenal players after win v Liverpool
Published: October 10, 2022Gunners and Nigeria legend Nwankwo Kanu sent a message to Arsenal players after their hard-fought 3-2 win over Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium in London on Sunday evening, congratulating the team on returning to the top of the Premier League table.
After beating Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby in the penultimate round of matches in the top-flight, Arsenal claimed another statement win by edging Liverpool in a five-goal thriller thanks to Bukayo's match-winning strike from the penalty spot with fourteen minutes left on the clock.
Arsenal led three times in the game but were pegged back twice, a result that saw them overtake Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in the Premier League standings.
In a lively start, Gabriel Martinelli gave the home team the lead in the 58th second with a composed finish but Darwin Nunez levelled for Liverpool with eleven minutes of the first half to be played.
Saka ensured the Gunners went into the break with their noses in front after tapping in at the back post but the Reds equalised again as Roberto Firmino found the bottom corner seven minutes after the restart.
"KAN U believe it. @arsenal back on top of the league well done boys," Kanu wrote on Twitter, accompanied by a five-second video of him chanting 'Come on Arsenal, come on'.
In his Arsenal career, Kanu faced Liverpool five times in the Premier League, winning twice, drawing two games while suffering just one loss.
