Anglo-Nigerian midfielder in contention for a place in Chelsea's matchday squad v Milan
Published: October 04, 2022England U20 international of Nigerian descent Carney Chukwuemeka is in contention for a place in Chelsea's matchday squad in Wednesday's Champions League clash against Fikayo Tomori's AC Milan at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea confirmed through their official website on Tuesday that the full complement of the senior players were out on the grass at Cobham this morning in the final training session before the matchday three clash against the Italian Serie A powerhouse.
Manager Graham Potter put the players through their paces for the final time before the Blues host AC Milan.
Chukwuemeka was in attendance, as were Edouard Mendy, N’Golo Kante and Marc Cucurella who all missed the 2-1 win at Crystal Palace due to injury or illness.
The 18-year-old Anglo-Nigerian has been included in every matchday squad in this season's Champions League but is still waiting to make his debut in the competition as he was a non-playing substitute against Dinamo Zagreb and Salzburg.
Chukwuemeka has not made a first team appearance since playing for 57 minutes in 1-1 draw against Burnley on May 19, 2022 while wearing the colours of Aston Villa.
Chelsea and AC Milan met twice in the group stage of the Champions League in the 1999-2000 season with both games ending in draws.
