Super Eagles coach happy to face Portugal in November, vows to choose best players
Published: September 29, 2022
Ahead of the international friendly between Nigeria and Portugal, Jose Peseiro has expressed his delight in facing his country of birth.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will play against the Selecao of Portugal in an international friendly on the 17th of November, 2022 at the Estádio José Alvalade.
Peseiro has however revealed that he's happy to lead Nigeria against Portugal and he hopes to have a good outing in the encounter.
"It's my country until then we will be observing our players. I am happy to play against Portugal and I wish to do a good job there.
"But until then, I await the return of the players who are out injured, some are not fit while some are not performing at the highest level, I wish that they get in top gear" he told NFF TV
Speaking on the selection of players for Nigeria's men football team, the former FC Porto coach stated that he makes sure that he hands call ups to the best players of Nigeria descent.
"I choose the best of the best, we have many players. It's my job to choose the best players.
"I hope we don't have too many injuries, although it can happen."
Nigeria and Portugal have never played against each other at senior level.
They have however played against each other three times at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, with the Portuguese winning all three.
