Former Paris Saint-Germain, West Brom and Wigan players back Super Eagles against Algeria
Published: September 27, 2022
Retired Nigeria internationals Julius Aghahowa, Ifeanyi Udeze and Godwin Okpara have expressed their views about the Super Eagles friendly against former African champions Algeria Tuesday night.
Both sides failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after defeats to Cameroon and Ghana respectively in the Playoffs and are gearing up for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Aghahowa, Okpala and Udeze spoke on Brila FM Lagos about the game at the Miloud Hadefi Olympic Complex, Oran which kicks off at 8pm Nigerian time.
"This is a friendly match and it's an opportunity to give the mew players in the team an opportunity to show what they can bring to the team," Aghahowa said.
"There's nothing at stake but ensures team bonding so I hope the coach will do the needful," Aghahowa who played for former Premier League side Wigan Athletic added.
On his part, former West Brom left back Ifeanyi Udeze wishes the team a good game and told Brila FM what he feels is paramount in the game.
"I wish the team well. I hope they win but above all, I wish them an injury free game. Victory is good but it's a friendly.
Former Paris Saint German defender Godwin Okpara insists the Super Eagles should come out firing on all cylinders even though it is a friendly.
"They (Super Eagles) should take the friendly match seriously.
"They may not be going to the World Cup but this is a quality game and the coach builds for the future," the onetime FIFA U-17 World Cup star further stressed.
