Everton want to tie down Super Eagles star to a new deal
Published: September 19, 2022English Premier League club Everton FC are looking to tie down Alex Iwobi to a new deal.
According to The Athletic UK (subscription required), Everton have begun contract extension talks with Iwobi, but talks are still in early stages.
Iwobi's current contract runs until the summer of 2024, having signed a five-year-deal in August 2019.
The Super Eagles star has recently become a fan favorite and an integral part of Everton's squad since the arrival of Frank Lampard, after a difficult start to his career at Goodison Park.
Iwobi's performance on the pitch has been commendable since the turn of the year, with him also having a change of position.
The 2019 AFCON bronze medalist has been involved in three of Everton's last four goals in all competitions.
With this turn in form, the Toffees hierarchies have deemed it fit to table new contract terms for the Nigerian.
Iwobi joined the Merseyside club from Arsenal in August 2019 from Arsenal FC, ending a 15-year-association with the Londoners.
The 26-year-old is amongst the players selected by Jose Peseiro for Super Eagles friendly encounter with the Desert Foxes of Algeria in Oran.
