Chelsea's sack Of Tuchel Is bad trend for football - Ikpeba

Former Super Eagles striker Victor Ikpeba has lambasted the management of Chelsea Football Club for the 'bad precedent' of sacking managers at will following the recent decision to relief Thomas Tuchel his job six games into the 2022-2023 Premier League season.

The 1997 African Footballer of the Year bared his mind on Supersport's Monday Night Football.

"The owners of the club (Chelsea) are causing a very bad situation, a bad blood within the players.

"This is a Manager that spent close to £300m bringing in new players and he's gone after six games in the English Premier League and one Champions League game.

"This is a bad precedent in football. Even in the era of Abramovich, I've not seen them sack a manager after one month or six weeks. I don't know their reason for doing it but it's unfortunate," the pundit who was a star player at AS Monaco in the French Ligue 1, Real Betis and Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga where Tuchel once coached stated.

"Look at the win ratios of these (past Chelsea) managers. They are not bad. I'm a big fan of Gianluca Vialli. The manner they sack managers at Chelsea is a very bad trend.

"That's why I like the traditional clubs of Liverpool. Manchester United though have in recent years been in the same situation of sacking managers as quickly as possible but I think sacking this manager will disrupt Chelsea's season. I'm very sure about it," Ikpeba concluded.

Chelsea’s next Premier League game against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge originally billed for Sunday has been postponed due to policing challenges ahead of Monday's funeral rites of Queen Elizabeth II who died last week Thursday.
