Ex-Super Eagles star reveals one asset Liverpool players have that will help them beat Ajax
Published: September 13, 2022Retired Nigeria international Victor Ikpeba has revealed one factor that will help Liverpool defeat Ajax Amsterdam in Tuesday's Champions League clash at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp's team are looking for a response after a shock 4-1 loss to Napoli in their opening Champions League match at the Diego Maradona Stadium last week.
Ajax are in brilliant form heading into the fixture with seven consecutive all-competition wins in the new season and have posted a clean sheet in each of their last five games.
Liverpool have had an underwhelming start to the season with two wins from a possible seven in all competitions.
Ikpeba explained how the Liverpool fanbase can make the difference in tonight's fixture.
Speaking on Supersport's Monday Night Football, monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com, Ikpeba stated : "Ajax have the same style of play, the same philosophy.
"They don't defend, they go and play attacking football every time so it's for Liverpool to overcome this young Ajax side who will be in Anfield full of confidence but the fans at Anfield have to drive the players.
"That is the asset the Liverpool players have. If the fans are behind them they will beat this young Ajax side what is going to be a struggle with the recent form of this Liverpool side."
Meanwhile, Ajax coach Alfred Schreuder confirmed at the pre-match press conference that all twenty-four players that traveled to Merseyside on Monday are fit, meaning Calvin Bassey is in contention to be included in the matchday squad to face the Reds.
