South African club offer Akpeyi 2+1 year deal but Super Eagles GK insists on shorter terms
Published: September 11, 2022
Allnigeriasoccer.com has been told that Daniel Akpeyi's transfer to Sekhukhune United is gathering pace, with the goalkeeper discussing personal terms with the South African DStv Premiership club.
There has been a fresh development in Sekhukhune United's pursuit of Akpeyi in the last 24 hours as the South African top flight club have now offered him a two-year contract with option for an extra year.
The Super Eagles star has insisted that he wants a shorter contract, until the end of the 2022-2023 season.
Akpeyi has agreed to a pay cut in order to join Sekhukhune United, lower than what he was earning at Kazier Chiefs.
The 36-year-old will put pen to paper on a nine-month contact if Sekhukhune United don't improve their financial offer, which is likely not to happen at this stage.
Akpeyi's first club in South Africa was Chippa United before switching to Kaizer Chiefs in Kazier Chiefs in 2019.
Sekhukhune United have had a terrible start to the season with just one win from seven games in the DStv Premiership and lie second from bottom in the table.
