Fifth straight clean sheet for Super Eagles defender and Ajax Amsterdam
Published: September 10, 2022
Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey continued his fine form for Ajax Amsterdam on Saturday evening as the Dutch champions picked up their fifth consecutive clean sheet in all competitions.
The former Rangers star put in a solid display as Ajax thrashed SC Heerenveen 5-0 at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
Ajax have not conceded a goal since FC Groningen's Cyril Ngonge scored against them on matchday two of the Eredivisie - a game their new number 3 missed as a result of suspension.
Keeping a clean sheet has been one of manager Alfred Schreuder's priorities after his side shipped in eight goals in their first three competitive games of the new season, including the Johan Cruijff Schaal clash against PSV Eindhoven.
The four-time European champions have been brilliant at the back since Bassey's return from suspension, posting shutouts against Sparta Rotterdam, FC Utrecht, SC Cambuur, Glasgow Rangers and SC Heerenveen.
The Nigeria international has also done well offensively in the five matches, registering assists in 4-0 wins against Cambuur and Rangers.
Ajax put five past Heerenveen thanks to goals from Klaassen, Taylor, Kudus (2) and Brobbey.
