Published: August 31, 2022
Through their official website, English Premier League giants Chelsea announced the inbound and outbound transfers of two players of African descent on Wednesday, August 31.
Ivory Coast-eligible central defender Wesley Fofana has completed his move from Leicester City after putting pen to paper on a seven-year contract that keeps him at Stamford Bridge until the end of the 2028-2029 season.
The France U21 international has joined Chelsea after two seasons at Leicester City, where he made 52 appearances in all competitions including thirty-seven in the English Premier League.
Fofana is third defender signed for Chelsea's first team this summer after Senegal national teamer Kalidou Koulibaly and versatile Spaniard Marc Cucurella.
Ghana international Baba Rahman has joined Championship club Reading on loan for the remainder of the 2022-2023 campaign.
The fullback spent the entirety of last season at The Royals, making 29 starts for the club in the second tier.
Since joining Chelsea in the summer of 2015, the Ghanaian has taken in loan spells at Schalke, Reims, Real Mallorca and PAOK.
Rahman has totaled twenty-three appearances for Chelsea's first team, the last of which came against Leicester City on the final day of the 2015-2016 season.
