Ex-African POTY questions the transfer fee paid by Manchester United to sign Casemiro

Former African Footballer of the Year Victor Ikpeba has criticized the decision of Manchester United to pay a huge transfer fee to sign Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.

Ten days ago, the Red Devils confirmed the capture of Casemiro, who is a  multiple La Liga and UEFA Champions League winner with former side Real Madrid.

The fee to bring the South American star to Old Trafford is 60 million pounds guaranteed  plus £10 million in add-ons, bringing the total package to £70 million.

Ikpeba bared his mind while analyzing the weekend's matches in the Premier League on Supersport programme, Monday Night Football, monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com.

"I don't think United fans are greedy and unappreciative of what the owners of the club have brought," Ikpeba said.

"With the amount of money spent so far, for me it's great. But is it the solution to getting Man United to title winning ways, I'm not so sure.

"To spend £70m on Casemiro at his age (30), United did not learn their lesson on Jadon Sancho. They spent so much and they are still spending."

During his time as a Real Madrid player, Casemiro won 18 trophies: 5 European Cups, 3 Club World Cups, 3 UEFA Super Cups, 3 LaLiga titles, 1 Copa del Rey and 3 Spanish Super Cups.

He made his debut for Manchester United in a 1-0 win against Southampton this past weekend, coming off the bench for the last ten minutes of the encounter at the St. Mary's Stadium.

Manchester United’s next Premier League game is against Wilfred Ndidi's Leicester City on Thursday evening.
