African-origin player agrees six-year deal ahead of world record move to Chelsea
Published: August 26, 2022Wesley Fofana could see his aspiration of joining Chelsea fulfilled sooner rather then later as Leicester on Friday afternoon finally received an improved offer for the young France youth international.
According to French sports daily L'Equipe, Fofana's imminent transfer to Chelsea will be historic, with the transfer fee worth an initial €82.5 million, making him the most expensive player of African descent in history.
With bonuses and performance-related add-ons, the Franco-Ivorian starlet could become the most expensive defender in history, overtaking England centre-back Harry Maguire who broke the world record fee for a defender when he joined Manchester United in 2019.
Fofana was banished to the U21 squad to train with the developmental side than with the likes of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho.
Wesley Fofana has been key for this move - he only wanted to follow his dream and join Chelsea. It’s finally set to be completed with Leicester after official bid submitted in the afternoon. 🚨🔵 #CFC

According to Fabrizio Romano, Fofana will sign a six-year contract with Chelsea until June 2028.
The centre-back, according to the update by the ever reliable Italian transfer market guru on Friday evening, is the one driving the deal as his open admission of wanting to only play for Chelsea this season has softened the stance of Leicester.
The Foxes are reportedly keen to sign Borussia Dortmund defender of Nigerian descent Manuel Akanji as a replacement for Fofana.
