'His football IQ and his talent has risen to a new level' - Rangers star hails Bassey after UCL draw
Published: August 26, 2022
Rangers star Scott Arfield had nice things to say about his former teammate Calvin Bassey after the UEFA Champions League draw.
Arfield revealed that the Nigeria international met with the Rangers team before their Champions League playoff tie with PSV in Eindhoven on Wednesday.
Bassey and the Light Blues players will set aside their friendship when Rangers and Ajax Amsterdam face off in two matches in the group stage of the Champions League.
The Super Eagles defender made a big impression at Rangers last term, helping them win the Scottish Cup and qualify for the final of the Europa League where they lost to Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties.
Arfield revealed that he's impressed by the development of Bassey and admitted that it would be difficult to beat Ajax.
Speaking to Sky Sports UK, via Glasgow Times, Arfield stated : "His football IQ and his talent has risen to a new level.
"We know he isn't going to be the same boy when he comes back that is for sure.
"He is going to be a better player and like his teammates it is going to be a task to get the better of them.
"I saw his Instagram post yesterday the big man was loving it. Hopefully he doesn't love it at Ibrox when he comes back!"
Rangers are back in the Champions League group stage after eliminating PSV in the playoff round, while Ajax qualified for the competition by virtue of winning last season's Eredivisie.
